The Polestar 5, now officially available to order starting at €119,900, explores its pricing, specifications, design, market positioning, and more.
Pricing & Availability
- Dual Motor variant: Priced from €119,900.
- Performance variant: Available from €142,900.
This pricing firmly places the Polestar 5 in the high-performance luxury EV segment, targeting buyers who might otherwise consider the Porsche Taycan, Tesla Model S Plaid, or similar benchmarks.
Orders are open now across Europe and in select markets. Initial deliveries are expected to begin in late 2025 or in 2026. The car was revealed at the IAA Mobility show in Munich, with Polestar highlighting Europe as a core market, though the model will initially skip the U.S., China, Canada, and South Korea.
Design & Styling
Emerging from Polestar’s 2020 Precept concept, the Polestar 5 retains a minimalist yet striking aesthetic. It’s a five-metre-long grand tourer with clean surfacing, inspired by aviation and featuring a Kamm-style tail for aerodynamic efficiency.
Key design elements include:
- A fastback silhouette with no conventional rear window, replaced by an HD rearview camera integrated into the rear roofline.
- Retractable door handles, light bar, diffuser, and venting contribute to a low drag coefficient of 0.24 Cd on the Dual Motor model.
- The body is crafted from aluminium, bonded with heat-cured adhesive to boost stiffness and reduce weight.
The interior embraces Scandinavian minimalism and sustainability: deep-set front seats co-designed with Recaro, rear ‘4+1’ seating, foot garages for enhanced legroom, and eco-conscious materials like natural fiber deco panels and recycled PET upholstery.

Market Position & Strategic Outlook
Polestar positions the 5 as its flagship EV—a performance identity rather than a volume seller. CEO Michael Lohscheller emphasises the car as the realization of Polestar’s design, tech, and sustainability vision.
By skipping high-tariff markets like the U.S., China, Canada, and South Korea initially, Polestar emphasizes European markets while balancing profitability challenges.
It joins competitors such as Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron GT, and Tesla Model S in both performance and price brackets.
Summary
The Polestar 5 stands out as a bold statement in the EV landscape:
- A premium four-door GT blending elegance, performance, and range.
- Dual trims serving both performance thrill (884 hp) and extended range (up to 670 km).
- The €119,900 starting price underscores its positioning as a luxury offering, rivaling established players.
