Bentley India has formally marked its transition from operating via private importers to a full-fledged retail presence in the country by inaugurating its first official showroom in Mumbai.
The retail centre, located in Nariman Point, represents a new strategic chapter for the British ultra-luxury marque in India.
A New Era: From Importer to Direct Retail
Until now, Bentley’s presence in India was managed by Exclusive Motors, a private importer that handled sales and servicing of the brand’s cars in the Indian market. However, in July 2025, the company created a dedicated India division under its parent group, Skoda Auto Volkswagen India Pvt. Ltd. (SAVWIPL), thereby bringing all sales, marketing, and aftersales operations in-house.
This transition signals Bentley’s commitment to developing stronger control over its premium brand identity, customer experience, and market penetration in India.
The Mumbai Flagship — Showroom Details & Launch
The Mumbai showroom is operated in partnership with Infinity Cars and positioned in the prestigious Nariman Point area—overlooking the iconic Marine Drive. It has been deliberately designed as a “state-of-the-art experience centre” to reflect the brand’s luxury ethos.
On display are three of Bentley’s flagship models:
- Bentayga EWB (Extended Wheelbase SUV)
- Continental GT (luxury Grand Tourer)
- Flying Spur (luxury sedan)
Though prices have not yet been officially announced, potential buyers can start placing orders.
Powertrains & Technical Highlights
Bentley India is bringing modern, performance-oriented powertrains for the Indian models:
- The Continental GT and Flying Spur will come equipped with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 plug-in hybrid system, producing strong power and torque outputs.
- The Bentayga EWB, for now, is offered with a 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 petrol engine.
This choice aligns with Bentley’s global push toward hybridization while retaining powerful internal combustion performance for its luxury customers.
Expansion Plans: Bengaluru & Delhi Next
Mumbai is just the beginning. Bentley has confirmed plans to open two more showrooms in India’s major markets:
- Bengaluru — to be located on Richmond Road.
- New Delhi — the third planned outlet, though finer details (location, date) are still under wraps.
With these moves, Bentley aims to create a pan-India retail and service network, improving brand visibility and support for its clientele.
Implications & Market Significance
- Elevated customer experience
By managing retail directly, Bentley can better control every touchpoint—from the showroom ambience and service to aftersales engagement—ensuring consistency with its luxury brand image. - Sign of confidence in the Indian luxury segment
The shift from import model to full retail presence indicates that Bentley sees strong potential in India’s ultra-luxury car market. - Stronger alignment with VW / luxury group strategies
Integration with SAVWIPL suggests synergies in operations, logistics, brand management, and possibly cost efficiencies shared across luxury brands under the group umbrella. - Market competition intensifies
The move places Bentley in closer competition with other luxury marques (e.g., Rolls-Royce, Aston Martin, high-end Mercedes, etc.) that already have established Indian retail setups. Bentley’s direct approach may help it better compete on service and brand positioning.
